Freddie's coaching journey started in Canada at Banff, where he completed his Level 1 and 2 certifications before instructing across Japan (Nozawa Onsen), New Zealand (Mt Hutt), and Switzerland (Andermatt). He has since trained as a physiotherapist, bringing a deep understanding of biomechanics and movement to his coaching analysis.
Kris also started his instructor journey in Canada at Banff and has since spent over five years doing back-to-back seasons between New Zealand (Mt Hutt) and Switzerland (Engelberg), with stints in Japan and Andorra along the way. He holds an IASI Level 4 certification — the highest level of ski instruction — and brings thousands of hours of on-snow coaching experience.
Why we built CarveCoach
Skiing and snowboarding have shaped our lives. We've both spent years living and working on mountains around the world — and somewhere along the way, these sports stopped being hobbies and became a way of life.
But we also know that lessons have become incredibly expensive, and too often, the instructors delivering them see very little of that money. Resort schools take a significant cut, leaving coaches undervalued despite the skill and training they bring to the mountain every day.
We built CarveCoach to change both sides of that equation. For riders, we want to make expert-level feedback accessible to anyone, anywhere — whether you're preparing for an upcoming trip, reviewing footage from your last run, or trying to break through a plateau you've been stuck on for seasons.
For coaches, we want to create a platform where their expertise is properly valued and they're fairly compensated for the work they put in.
